SpaceClaim 2012+: CAD for the CAD Indifferent - Cadalyst
For engineers, designers, and even managers and business owners who need
access to 3D CAD to get their jobs done but don't necessarily have "CAD
user" as part of their job descriptions, a direct-modeling tool might
be just the ticket. That, in fact, is the premise of SpaceClaim, a 3D
direct-modeling solution for mechanical and product design, in its tenth
release as of this week

SpaceClaim Stretches Mech Design Tenacles, Launches SpaceClaim 2012+ - SolidSmack
SpaceClaim is spreading its mechanical design tentacles across a wider range of end-users today. With the 10th release of the amiable CAD beast, those tentacles become electrified grapplers sending shocks of manufacturing and mesh-pulling joy into the users. SpaceClaim 2012+ brings new connections to CAM software, mesh and solid comparison and a pattern shifting feature that makes modifying geometry smarter, not harder. Here’s a wrap up of what you’ll see in the new release.

The Direct Route to 3D CAD - Eureka
SpaceClaim's
innovation was to produce a relatively inexpensive, easy-to-use direct
modelling package that allowed those not trained in the use of CAD
access to 3D modelling technology. First announced in 2007, SpaceClaim
Engineer was launched in 2008. Today, it has sold as many as 25,000
licences to 2,500 customer companies and has shown a compounded growth
rate of between 80% and 90% per annum. No wonder SpaceClaim's British
CEO describes the last few years as "a wild ride."

SpaceClaim Improves on Accessible CAD - Automotive Design & Production
In general, direct modelers such as SpaceClaim are straightforward and
simple to use, which is a good thing for occasional CAD users. According
to company officials, 70% of SpaceClaim’s customers learn the CAD
system without any formal training. This plus the lower cost of the
software, again claim company officials, makes the total cost of
ownership for SpaceClaim less than 50% that of traditional CAD products.
How is this possible?

3D PDF is Important Again - Design World
Many direct modeling CAD companies have the ability to read and write 3D PDF files. For example, SpaceClaim can read 3D PDF files containing PRC 3D data, and can write 2D and 3D U3D and PRC PDF files. When SpaceClaim reads PRC, the models come in as clean, editable solids, like any other imported solid.
