SpaceClaim Brings Latest 3D Printing Innovation to The RAPID Conference

Tuesday, 10 June 2014

Attendees will see SpaceClaim’s new STL Prep for 3D Printing Capabilities First Hand

DETROIT, RAPID Conference Booth #1308, June 2, 2104 -- SpaceClaim, the leading provider of fast and intuitive 3D modeling software for engineers, is exhibiting its latest innovations for 3D printing at the RAPID Conference, opening today. STL Prep for 3D Printing is a module for SpaceClaim Engineer, extending its intuitive interface, speed, and ability to work with any major 3D format into the 3D printing world.

STL Prep for 3D Printing module prepares models for 3D printing efficiently and easily by offering a set of tools to repair printing problems and to modify STL and CAD files, as easily as if they were created natively or imported. Engineers can use the module to check for and repair water-tightness and intersections, to shell models to save on material, and to create connecting features in order to combine parts of a model after printing. STL Prep for 3D Printing also works with OBJ, CGR, and AMF file formats.

“STL Prep for 3D Printing is an example of how we are continually working to make 3D modeling faster and easier for all engineers,” said Frank DeSimone, SpaceClaim vice president of software development. “SpaceClaim is the first system to let users work with native CAD and faceted geometry in a single environment. It doesn’t matter if you receive STEP files or STL, you can use the same set of tools to modify and prep designs for printing.”

With the STL Prep for 3D Printing module, users can work directly with STL files to:

    • Analyze & Clean STL: Intersections, ensure it is watertight, fix immediately
    • Edit STL: Cut up model, slice them into several parts for multi-material printing
    • Combine STL models with other STL models or even solids
    • Decimation/reduction
    • Shell models to minimize waste & Create Connecting Features

Engineers can visit SpaceClaim’s website to begin a trial of SpaceClaim Engineer and the STL Prep for 3D Printing module at: http://www.spaceclaim.com/en/trial.aspx.

About the RAPID Conference

For nearly 25 years, RAPID, the longest-running industry forum, has been the breeding ground for innovations in additive manufacturing. RAPID showcases the newest technologies and applications across multiple industries, including aerospace, aircraft, automotive, electronics, medical, dental, art, fashion, and more. Attendees will learn how to use this technology to improve creativity, execution, reduce costs and bring products to market faster.
