As the subject line already says, I am looking for a way to elegantly create spirals and springs or helixes. There is no dedicated tool for this, so there might be something hidden I did not yet see, or a trick is needed. There is nothing in the manual or help on this, though.

Perhaps this video may help:

Creation of Helical Stairs

Creation of helical stairs emphasizing helix and moving along a trajectory.

Pull tool > Revolve > Rotate Options > "Revolve Helix"

In the pull tool you can revolve.  There is a revolve option to revolve as a helix.  There you can set the pitch, length, and taper angle.  Search the help for helix.

If the link to the 'Creation of Helical Stairs' does not launch the video, please try the following as a workaround:

1. Place your mouse cursor over the 'Download' link on the SpaceClaim page:

http://www.spaceclaim.com/Support/Tutorials/SpaceClaim_TipsTricks.aspx?t=19

2. RMB (right mouse button) over the link until you see a menu

3. Select 'Save Target As..' from the list of menu options. This should launch a Save As window.

4. Specify the location where you want to save the *.wmv file in the Save As window and select 'Save'

5. You should be able to run the downloaded video file on your computer.
