    SC 2009+: Beam tools

    Hi,

I've just been playing with the beam tools. They are interesting for us, because the exposit making department uses an aluminium profile system for the substructures a lot (Maytec/Item).

II ran into these things I cannot understand:

    1. How are intersections of beams handeled? The most important property of any given beam is it's lenght, and this lenght can only be defined when you have an 'up to' function so a beam stops just before other beams running across it. Still, it would be desirable if the whole beam structure could still be a wireframe with interconnections at the corners.

    2. How am I supposed to make a drawing of a beam structure, as they do not appear in my drawing, it appears, only their wireframe?

    3. How is the strategy for designing parts that connect to the beams? They do not seem to be selectable as a sketch plane and 'up to' functions of the pull tool does not recognize theim either.

    Best regards,

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Our implementation of beams is for analysis only at this point and is not intended for drawings yet.  The beams are displayed as faceted models and currently there is no way to extract the solids from them but we are aware of this desire.  The beams should be connected at the corner and allow you to edit one and have them stay attached to each other.  There is a Maintain sketch connectivity option which should allow this.

     Regards,

    Roman
