I am splitting a face on a cylinder to create a spiral wind curve.

Help says use the "Select Two Cutter Points" tool and the shortest line is drawn is drawn between two points.

Most of the time this is true, but there seems to be a line I cannot cross.  When I try to cross this line the cutting line goes 359 dgrees the other way around the cylinder.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?
